The Detroit Red Wings aim to boost their offensive firepower as they strive to end a nine-year streak without making the playoffs.

A recent report proposed a trade that would benefit both the Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche in a blockbuster deal. With the speculation of Martin Necas wanting out of Colorado, this deal might actually make sense for the Avalanche.

Red Wings reportedly eyeing Avalanche superstar in offseason deal.

Cole Shelton from Heavy.com writes that in the proposed deal, Detroit would land Necas as the centerpiece. Entering the final year of his two-year, $13 million contract, Necas would slot into the Red Wings' top six and provide a significant offensive boost. He tallied 27 goals and 56 assists for 83 points last season, just one goal shy of his career-high.
"The Red Wings would also acquire Manson, who can play a key role on the blue line. Manson is entering the final year of his four-year, $18 million deal. He's a star defensive defenseman who can also add some offense. He recorded 1 goal and 14 assists for 15 points in 48 games." -Shelton

As part of the deal, Detroit would send three draft picks to Colorado, including the 13th overall selection. The Avalanche would also receive Jonatan Berggren, a pending restricted free agent who brings offensive upside in a bottom-six role.
"The Avs would also acquire Wallinder, who's a 22-year-old defenseman and can replace Manson on the blue line. He's in the final year of his entry-level deal. Wallinder has yet to make his NHL debut." -Shelton

Necas was initially seen as a potential replacement for Mikko Rantanen, but that transaction didn't materialize, and he now finds himself on the trade block. NHL insider nick Kypreos of Sportsnet recently listed Necas as a trade candidate on his offseason trade bait board.
«After the Avalanche moved Rantanen because of how difficult they perceived contract extension talks to be going. How much patience will they have with Necas? Not a homegrown player or superstar talent, if negotiations on an extension start slowly this July? There was a sense Necas wasn't overly thrilled with his experience in Colorado and that he wants to explore other options.» -Kypreos

If the Avalanche do look to make a move with Necas, the Red Wings and several other NHL teams will be lining up to trade for him.
