Josh Manson sets the tone early for his team in Colorado's season opener.
Ryan Gaydos from Fox News writes that with 1:34 remaining in the first period on Tuesday night, Colorado Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings players dropped the gloves.
The altercation was sparked when Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson delivered a big hit on Kings forward Warren Foegele near the benches, forcing Foegele to skate back to his teammates gingerly.
Moments later, Kings winger Jeff Malott squared off with Manson, stepping into the fight, perhaps a fitting choice, given that his brother, Mike, is both a fighter and a coach in the UFC.
"Malott and Manson battled for a few seconds before eventually hitting the ice. Officials broke up the fisticuffs soon after." -Gaydos
The first period between Los Angeles and Colorado ended scoreless, but the Avalanche ultimately came out on top, fueled by Martin Necas's two goals and Nathan MacKinnon's two assists.
Here's what Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar after Colorado's fist victory of the season.
"I thought by the time [the] last seven or eight minutes of the first period, by the time we got there we started to play a little bit more assertive. [We] continued that in the second period and got better." -Bednar
The Avalanche are back in action for their home opener on Thursday against the Utah Mammoth.
