The Colorado Avalanche started their regular season off on the right foot defeating the LA Kings 4-1, Martin Necas really stood out scoring 2 goals, and there's almost little to no doubt that he will get a big pay day.

Necas is set to become a free agent at the end of this season if he chooses not to sign an extension with the Avalanche.

Martin Necas makes a massive statement in Colorado's season opener on Tuesday.

Ryan Womeldorf of The Hockey Writers highlighted key takeaways from the Avalanche's season opener, with Martin Necas' standout performance taking center stage.
"In the season preview, we expected him to have a big season. He came out of the gates displaying all the speed and skill needed to ride shotgun with Nathan MacKinnon. He scored the first goal of the season for the Avalanche, an absolutely gnarly snapshot after a smooth pass from MacKinnon. Midway through the third period, with the Avalanche on the power play, Necas took a pass just above the right circle and ripped an absolute beauty to the far side." -Womeldorf

There's been plenty of discussion about Necas' contract and whether he'll remain with the Avalanche, but one thing is certain: if Colorado doesn't pay him, another team will.
"Martin Necas is going to get paid. It took some time for him to get acclimated after being brought in as part of the blockbuster Mikko Rantanen trade last season. Speculation reigned throughout the offseason, understandable given that he's entering the final season of his contract." -Womeldfor

Necas is showing confidence with the puck, isn't afraid to make plays, and is skating alongside one of the best players in the world. If he approaches a 100-point season, his next contract could push toward a $12 million AAV.
