Justin Lynch from The Sporting News writes that this is fantastic news for the Winnipeg Jets and their fans, as the team managed to lock up their star forward just before the start of the season.
With the NHL recently seeing a flurry of massive contract extensions, the Jets wasted no time ensuring Connor's future in Winnipeg.
Getting this deal done early eliminates any potential contract distractions and allows both the player and team to focus solely on the season ahead.
Coming off a career-best campaign, the American sniper was nothing short of sensational for Winnipeg last season.
Connor racked up 41 goals and 56 assists for 97 points across all 82 regular-season games.
He carried that momentum into the playoffs as well, where he added 5 goals and 12 assists in 13 games, further cementing his status as one of the NHL's elite offensive talents.
"Getting this Connor contract signed now is a sign the Jets are going all in. The pressure is on in Winnipeg to deliver a Stanley Cup championship to a hockey market that has been craving it.
For Connor to extend to what is nowadays a reasonable $12 million hit as well shows his commitment to the Jets and his desire to win in Winnipeg. This gives the club room to be able to continue providing him a strong supporting cast around him." -Lynch
