The Colorado Avalanche have a crucial season ahead of them, with an unproven prospect pool, and a lack of draft picks, they need to win now, they have the team to do and head coach Jared Bednar will be on a short leash this NHL season.

The Avalanche need to get off to a good start for the teams sake and for Bednar's job security.

Mark Knudson of Mile High Sports reported on Bednar's lack of job stability to enter the season.
While he has won a Stanley Cup in 2022, it's as if it's been forgotten and the pressure is back on to win again.
"Bednar is well respected and well liked by everyone in Colorado's hockey community. But if the Avs don't make a serious run at another Stanley Cup this season, what happens then? Will Bednar - who is the longest tenured head coach among the four major Denver sports and the second longest tenured head coach (with the same team) in the NHL - be the one to take the blame? Should he be?" -Knudson

The NHL can be a harsh league, especially for coaches.
Take Pete DeBoer, for example, he led the Dallas Stars to two Western Conference Finals but couldn't get over the hump, and now he's out of a job, watching this season from his TV.
The same fate could befall Bednar, who has enjoyed some success, but professional sports have a notoriously short memory
"It sure seems like all other excuses are gone. Colorado didn't have to do a whole lot in this past offseason, roster-wise, after having made major changes at last season's trade deadline. They shored up several positions, locked up almost all the key players with contracts, and should have good chemistry already with the new faces. Assuming big Val Nichushkin is on the right track, and that his health/off the ice situation is on solid footing, that won't be a distraction to point at." -Knudson

The Colorado Avalanche have no choice but to win now.

They have the team to do it, and their future doesn't look too bright unless something drastic happens.
For Bednar this could be his last chance to save his job in Colorado.
