Enough has been said about Colorado's horrible decision in trading away one one their best players in franchise history. So now, it's time to discuss what the Avalanche need to do this offseason to get back to their winning ways.
Reports confirm that Mitch Marner is the best replacement for former Colorado Avalanche Mikko Rantanen.
What if the 'impossible' plays out and the Avalanche find a way to sign pending unrestricted free agent Mitch Marner? Aarif Deen from Colorado Hockey Now asks the question that every Avs fan is scratching their head about.
"Thankfully, this is a front office that isn't scared to make trades. They're not afraid to change the outlook of a team and shake up a roster. We have living proof of that." -Deen
Bringing
Marner to the Avalanche isn't simply about replacing Rantanen or reversing a potential trade. It's not just about landing the top free agent available. It's about finding the ideal complements to
Nathan MacKinnon.
"Marner would come with the same hunger to win. And he'd do it alongside MacKinnon, who has spoken out about how much he believes in this player." -Deen
MacKinnon and Marner teamed up for Team Canada and helped capture the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off title. While their standout moments didn't always come on the same shift, both played key roles in the team's success. The duo is also expected to reunite on the international stage at next year's Olympics.
Here's what MacKinnon had to say about Marner's play...
«Looks awesome. He's impressive out there. Unreal. Just so good, so talented. Marner gets a lot of flak in Toronto. But he's honestly one of the best players in the league. I play with some of the best players in the league, and then I skate with Marns, and he's right up there with anyone. Especially at that camp, there were a lot of good players. He stuck out as one of the best.» -MacKinnon
Deen also writes that Marner might be the most realistic superstar the Avalanche could pursue. He'd likely welcome the chance to play in the shadow of stars like MacKinnon and Makar, away from the intense spotlight he faced in Toronto.
After a frustrating decade of playoff letdowns with the Toronto Maple Leafs, a fresh start in Colorado could be exactly what he needs.
