A recent report confirms a trade idea that see the Toronto Maple Leafs acquiring superstar forward Martin Necas from the Colorado Avalanche in a massive blockbuster deal.

Multiple reports have already indicated that Necas has not been enjoying his time in Colorado.

Maple Leafs eyeing blockbuster deal for Necas.

Cole Shelton from Heavy.com writes that the Maple Leafs are in the market for a top-six forward, and one trade scenario has them landing a star winger in a major multi-player deal.
Maple Leafs acquire:
Martin Necas
Avalanche acquire:
Morgan Rielly
Ben Danford
Nick Robertson
The proposed trade would be a true blockbuster, giving Toronto a legitimate first-line winger. In return, Colorado would receive an NHL-caliber defenseman, a top prospect, and an NHL-ready forward. The deal's key obstacle would be Morgan Reilly waiving his no-trade clause to join the Avalanche, but it would also allow the Maple Leafs to shed his contract in the process.
"Toronto would acquire Necas, who is entering the final year of his two-year, $13 million deal. Necas could play on the top line and replace Mitch Marner, and add some more offense to the Maple Leafs' lineup. He recorded 27 goals and 56 assists for 83 points last season between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Avalanche." -Shelton

Although Necas arrived in Colorado as part of the Mikko Rantanen trade, his time with the Avalanche may already be nearing an end.
According to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, Necas is considered a trade candidate, with reports suggesting he was unhappy with his role on the team.
«Before that trade, Necas only signed a short-term deal with Carolina when the two sides couldn't agree on his long-term value, meaning he has one season left making $6.5 million against the cap, after which he could test the waters as a UFA." -Kypreos

Targeting Necas is a logical move for the Maple Leafs, who are stillin need of another offensive weapon. Since parting way with Mitch Marner, Toronto has yet ton acquire a true replacement. GM Brad Treliving has emphasized that securing a top-six winger remains a top priority.
Necas could be an ideal replacement for Marner, slotting in alongside Matthew Knies and Auston Matthews on Toronto's top line.
