With just 16 days to go until the start of the 2025 NHL Free Agency period, top insiders are offering major clues about what fans can expect when it comes to their favourite players.

Martin Necas was the centerpiece of the Colorado Avalanche's return in the shocking blockbuster trade that sent Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes back in January. But just over five months after the trade, NHL insider Nick Kypreos suggests that Necas may not be as committed to the Avs as initially thought.

Two Avalanche stars are expected to stay in Colorado next season.

Bailey Curtis from Yahoo Sports writes that in a recent episode of 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman shared updates that could offer some relief to Avalanche fans concerned about the team's top-six forward group.
Elliotte Friedman: Regarding the Martin Necas, Charlie Coyle rumours, I'm not sure the Avalanche feel they have to do anything, they like how the team looks on paper - 32 Thoughts Podcast
Following the Brock Nelson extension, the Avalanche nowhave just $1.2 million in cap space remaining for the rest of Free Agency. That doesn't leave them much flexibility, unless they explore moving a contract like Miles Wood's, which carries a $2.5 million cap hit for the next four years, in exchange for a cheaper bottom-six winger.
Friedman noted that most of the talk around Charlie Coyle has been driven by voices outside of Colorado, with other teams suggesting the Avalanche should consider a move. From his perspective, Colorado's front office doesn't share that sentiment.
It's still very early in the offseason, so we'll have to wait and see what develops over the summer.
