Could the Avalanche be closing in on Rantanen's future successor?
Following the Dallas Stars playoff defeat to the Edmonton Oilers, the front office might consider making major offseason moves to strengthen the team's chances of contending next year.
The trade rumours surrounding Stars' superstar
Jason Robertson weren't unfounded.
Avalanche divisional rival are officially shopping their top goal-scorer this offseason.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed on Friday's 32 Thoughts podcast that the Stars are genuinely exploring trade options for their 25-year-old winger following yet another frustrating playoff exit.
«It's been a wild week around Jason Robertson, and honestly, everything reported about him during that time was accurate." -Friedman
Friedman noted that frustration within the Stars organization following their collapse against Edmonton led them to consider making "major decisions," including assessing the potential return for trading a player like
Robertson.
The initial report of that interest came from David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, who stated that Dallas had received trade inquiries about Robertson,
Mason Marchment, and
Matt Dumba.
"Numerous reports have indicated star winger Jason Robertson is in play for the Stars, and TFP's David Pagnotta has confirmed that teams have been inquiring about his potential availability and the Stars have been willing to listen." -The Fourth Period
Robertson has just one year remaining on his current deal and is coming off another impressive season, tallying 35 goals and 80 points.
With less than $5 million in cap space and several contracts set to expire next summer, Dallas may still find themselves in a position where trading Robertson becomes a necessary consideration.
