TheColorado Avalanche lost 2-1 in OT to the Dallas Stars on home ice, and Jared Bednar issued a statement in regards to the team's power-play, which needs major improvement.

The ColoradoAvalanche have to improve their power-play, according to Jared Bednar. The unit is lacking in the ability to create pressure and set up in the Stars' zone, a task that took two minutes near the end of the game in OT.
Their only scoring chance on the man-advantage almost resulted in a short-handed goal for the Stars.
The harrowing fact of the night:
In total, Colorado went 0-for-6 on the power play, and now sit at 13th in power play percentage (15.4%) among the 16 playoff teams.

For a team that was a firebrand during the 2021-2022 season, they've been unable to stop the Dallas Stars' physicality in the zone entries, and struggled with creating offense.
What does Bednar think the team needs to improve on the power play?
«Everything,» Bednar said.

The double-minor penalty at the end of the game gave the Avalanche a golden opportunity to score on the power play. But they were unable to convert on seven shots, and the other two only say one shot, and three-shot attempts, and for an offense with this much talent, they need to do better.
That means stifling the Stars and clogging their own zone, and neutralizing their physicality.
«That's what you can expect, not a lot of room out there on either side of it, right,» Bednar said. «Someone's got to make and have an exceptional effort, five guys all on the same page, everyone doing the right thing and then you've still got to be able to beat their coverage in order to create scoring chances.»

Not only will Bednar have to account for the Stars' physicality, but also for Jonathan Drouin's struggles, which means shifting him off the first unit.
The Avalanche need to regain their foothold in the series, if the team is going to make a storybook run to the finals withGabriel Landeskog in the lineup.
