It is with heavy hearts to reveal the passing of a former professional hockey goaltender, who unfortunately passed away at the age of 41-years-old.
A recent announcement confirmed that Italian-born goaltender
Thomas Commisso, who was a lifelong professional goaltender, has tragically passed away.
Commisso ended up playing hundreds of games during his career, and it spanned from 2002-2019. To say he had a solid professional hockey career was an understatement.
The netminder started his hockey journey with his hometown team, Italian pro hockey with HC Bolzano, then began to play for the Siebeneich/Settequerce, Bolzano II, Kaltern/Caldaro, Pustertal/Val Pusteria Pergine, EV Bozen 84 and ended with Pergine.
The first organization he ended up playing for was the HC Bolzano, and they were the ones to unfortunately break the news of his passing through a heartbreaking announcement on social media:
"HCB Alto Adige Alperia learns with deep sadness the news of the premature disappearance of Thomas Commisso, aged 41.
Thomas, after the youngsters in the white and red shirt, had debuted in the first team, with which he played a total of 30 games between 2002 and 2013.
As a backup of the Foxes he won one Copa Italy and two Italian Supercups.
The whole society holds the family in a sincere hug at this moment of great pain. Rest in peace."
During his career, Commisso ended up winning the Series B Championship in 2007, then went on to win two Italian Super Cups, along with a Coppa Italia trophy.
Everyone here at Avalanche Insider is sending their thoughts and prayers to the family, friends, former teammates, and anyone else who is being effected by this heartbreaking news.
