While we were all expecting a possible comeback for Tyson Barrie, the former Colorado Avalanche defensemen officially announced his retirement from the NHL on Monday.

While most will remember his struggles with the Toronto Maple Leafs, his time in Colorado was quite the opposite and Avalanche fans will remember him fondly.

Tyson Barrie receives a heartfelt send off into retirement.

Nestor Quixtan from Mile High Sticking recently reported on the career of Tyson Barrie. While his ending may not have been one to remember, his time in Colorado has left a lasting positive for Avalanche fans.
"He joined the Avalanche during some lean years, managing to earn a regular spot on the team's blue line. Before long, he was the club's best defenseman. His best season came with the Avalanche during the 2018-19 season. That year, Barrie scored 14 goals and 45 assists for 59 points" -Quixtan

While Barrie struggled following his time in Colorado, the foundation he laid down should be the part of his career we remember him by.
"Tyson Barrie played during some lean seasons in Colorado. This was before Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar were on the club. But once the team boasted Gabe Landeskog, MacKinnon, and Makar as the core, the club was well on its way to playoff success." -Quixtan

Unfortunately for Barrie, he was dealt to Toronto right as the Avalanche were primed for success. He was traded for Nazem Kadri who contributed in a massive way during their cup run. This is why some of the Avalanche success should be attributed to Barrie, he was there during the tough times and was traded for a key player.
And who's to say the Avalanche wouldn't have still won the Stanley Cup if that trade never happened? If Barrie would have stayed in Colorado and won a Cup his 822 career game legacy would be looked at much differently.
Playing almost 1000 games in the NHL is quite the feat. When we think of Barrie, we should be thinking about his contribution to a franchise that was really in trouble and how he lifted them out of it.
