A recent report has outlined a potential blockbuster trade scenario in which star Samuel Girard could be dealt to the Detroit Red Wings, marking a significant shake-up for the Colorado Avalanche blue line.

Girard's name has been circulating in trade rumours throughout the offseason.

Red Wings have reportedly shown interest in Samuel Girard.

Cole Shelton from Heavy.com has floated a trade proposal that would send Samuel Girard from the Colorado Avalanche to the Detroit Red Wings in what could be a bold and intriguing roster shake-up.
The proposed deal has the Red Wings acquiring Girard in exchange for forward Michael Rasmussen, defenseman Erik Gustafsson and a 2026 third-round pick.
"The proposed deal makes sense for both teams as Detroit gets an upgrade on defense, while Colorado gets a bottom-six forward, an NHL defenseman to replace Girard, as well as a mid-round pick." -Shelton

The proposed deal would see Detroit land Girard, who's heading into the sixth season of his seven-year, $35 million contract. Slotted in as a top-four defenseman, he'd bring both stability and versatility to the Red Wings' blue line, serving as a reliable shutdown presence while also contributing offensively.
Last season, he posted 3 goals and 21 assists for 24 points across 73 games.
"In return, the Red Wings would give up a third-round pick as well as Rasmussen. Rasmussen was selected ninth overall in 2017, but he hasn't lived up to expectations.

He would be a bottom-six forward for the Avalanche and give them a secondary scorer. He recorded 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points in 77 games. He's entering the second year of his four-year, $12.8 million deal." -Shelton

In return, the Avalanche would receive Gustafsson, a veteran blueliner who could help fill the void left by Girard's departure. Entering the final year of his two-year, $4 million contract, Gustafsson tallied 2 goals and 16 assists for 18 points in 60 games last season, offering steady depth and puck-moving ability from the back end.
We'll have to keep a close eye on both teams as the offseason progresses.
