Charlie Coyle recently parted ways with the Avalanche when he was traded this offseason to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The veteran forward is a huge upgrade to their bottom six and will provide much needed depth for the club entering this NHL season.

Coyle will also be the most experienced player on the roster and that added leadership will be useful for their young core.

Blue Jackets find missing piece with Charlie Coyle signing.

Curtis Deem from Union and Blue recently shared the buzz and excitement surrounding the addition of Charlie Coyle to the Blue Jackets' roster.
"The most impactful change to the Blue Jackets lineup for this season may be an upgrade made to the third line center slot. GM Don Waddell was able to acquire veteran pivot Charlie Coyle from the Colorado Avalanche, and we believe he will be a big difference maker. As a result of this trade and the signing of Isac Lundestrom, the Blue Jackets will enter the new season deeper than they have ever been at the center position. They now have a nice mix of size, skill, experience, speed, and a variety of traits down the middle." -Deem

Coyle now entering his 14th NHL season will be the most experienced forward on the team as well as cup run with the Bruins in the 2019 adds much needed leadership to the young guys. And the best part is that it did not cost the Blue Jackets much to get him.
"The cost to acquire Charlie Coyle wasn't very steep, all things considered. Waddell was able to pick him and Miles Wood up in exchange for prospect Gavin Brindley, a 2025 third round pick, and a conditional 2027 second rounder. The moment this trade was finalized, Coyle became the oldest, most experienced forward on the team." -Deem

While Coyle may not make the highlight reel every night we can still see lots of upside offensive production from him this season.
"If the team can stay somewhat healthy and rediscover any of its magic from last season, I don't think 20 goals and 50 points are a stretch at all for this player. He's reached both milestones twice in his career, and despite the fact that he's 33 years old." -Deem

Coyle is now entering the last year of his contract, and this could be his last chance at a decent pay day as his career is winding down. It will be interesting to see if the Avalanche head office made the right call by shipping Coyle especially for such a low price.
