NHL writer reveals Avalanche made a massive mistake trading away a former top prospect for Charlie Coyle

The Boston Bruins completed multiple trades ahead of this year's NHL Trade Deadline, with forward Charlie Coyle standing out as one of the more prominent players moved, heading to the Colorado Avalanche.
Coyle was among the Bruins' top forwards and a tremendous presence in the locker room, but Colorado also included a promising young prospect in the deal that they may soon regret.
The Avalanche made a massive mistake trading away a former top prospect.
Michael DeRosa from Yahoo Sports writes that as a quick reminder, the Bruins sent Coyle and a 2026 fifth-round pick to Colorado in return for Casey Mittlestadt, William Zellers, and a 2025 second-round selection. Now, let's take a closer look at why this is a strong return for Coyle at this stage.

Zellers has already demonstrated at the USHL level that he has the potential to develop into a highly dynamic goal scorer. In 41 games with the Green Bay Gamblers, he tops the league with 37 goals and ranks second in points with 58. It's easy to see why the Bruins would be thrilled to add this talented 18-year-old to their prospect pool.

For Colorado, it's another draft pick and prospect wasted for a veteran forward near the end of his NHL career.
