Cale Makar just added another accolade to his growing collection.
The Colorado Avalanche blueliner has been named the NHL's best defenseman for the second time, the NHL revealed on Wednesday morning.

Sportsnet reports that Makar received the honour while out golfing with friends in his hometown of Calgary.
"Makar beat out Vancouver's Quinn Hughes and Columbus' Zach Werenski for the honour. It was his fifth consecutive year being nominated for the award." -Sportsnet
The 26-year-old Calgary native became only the ninth defenseman in NHL history to notch 30 goals in a single season. He led all defenseman in goals with 30, assists with 62, and points with 92, marking his second straight campaign with 90 or more points.

Alongside his two Norris Trophies, Makar also earned the Conn Smythe Trophy during Colorado's 2022 Stanley Cup championship run.
"He kicked off the season on fire, recording a point in 13 straight games, the second-longest season-opening streak by a defenseman in NHL history, trailing only Bobby Orr's 15-game run." -Sportsnet
Makar secured a dominant 176 first-place votes, far outpacing Werenski, who received 13, and Hughes, who got just two. Morrissey of Winnipeg and Victor Hedman of Tampa Bay completed the top five in voting.
"The third-place Hughes won the trophy last season and followed that up with 16 goals and 76 points in just 68 games. It was his third consecutive season of at least 76 points." -Sportsnet
