NHL writer confirms that the Colorado Avalanche are predicted to trade for this Mikko Rantanen replacement

The Colorado Avalanche gave the the Dallas Stars a strong challenge in the first round of this year's playoffs but ultimately fell short of moving forward.
Just a few years removed from their Stanley Cup victory, the team's management is focused on getting back into contention for another championship.
The Colorado Avalanche are predicted to trade for this Mikko Rantanen replacement this summer.
Matt Levine from Athlon Sports writes that Rantanen showcased his impact during the playoffs against the Avalanche, highlighting the void his departure left behind. Now, the team must find a suitable replacement, and according to NHL writer Adam Gretz of Blecher Report, Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks could be the ideal fit for Colorado.
"The Canucks seem to have lost confidence in Pettersson despite their public support of him. He might also welcome a fresh start, and Colorado would be a great place to get that given the style of play and the offensive talent that is already place. Beyond that, Colorado has shown time-and-time again that it is not afraid to be aggressive...Pettersson would be a great target to give them another potentially dominant center behind Nathan MacKinnon (something they desperately need)." -Gretz
Levine also writes that Elias Pettersson struggles during the 2024-25 season, managing just 15 goals and 30 assists. As a result, the Canucks might consider parting ways with him, and the Avalanche could present an ideal destination for a fresh start.
"Vancouver is looking to reload after missing the postseason as well, and landing a solid trade package for the star could be one way to make it happen. The Canucks have plenty of other talented players on the team, and Colorado could look to pounce on this opportunity." -Levine
Colorado already has a strong foundation, offering Pettersson the opportunity to join a well-established, win-now team. If both sides are willing to be bold this offseason, the move could prove to be win-win scenario.
The only question to be asked now is what could the Avalanche offer in return?
