Following their one-sided playoff defeat, the front office might consider making major offseason moves to strengthen the team's chances of contending next year.
On a recent episode of The Sheet podcast, NHL insider Jeff Marek suggested that the Dallas Stars could even look into trading star winger Jason Robertson.
NHL insider reveals Avalanche divisional rival are willing to trade their top goal-scorer.
Karl Rasmussen from MSN.com writes that Robertson is set to enter the final year of his contract in 2025-26, after he'll hit unrestricted free agency. He currently earns $7.75 million annually, but the 25-year-old is expected to pursue a deal that places along the league's highest-paid forwards.
With the Stars already committing significant money to Mikko Rantanen on a long-term deal, the team might decide that reallocating funds earmarked for Robertson toward addressing other roster needs would be a smarter move.
Marek floated the idea that Dallas might unexpectedly pursue Mitch Marner in free agency, noting that trading Robertson could be a way to clear the necessary cap space to make a serious run at the Toronto Maple Leafs standout.
"Dallas would be interesting and maybe one of the ways that you get there is if you end up dealing someone like Jason Robertson, who's a restricted free agent after one more year. Maybe that happens. I think Dallas is going to very much be ... 'We're out there shopping, and we're out there for big fish.' " -Marek
Robertson topped the team in goals this past season with 35 and had led Dallas in scoring in three of the past four years. However, if moving him creates an opportunity to pursue Marner, there appears to be a sense that the Stars might be open to parting with the former second-rounder.
