The Colorado Avalanche are just beginning their offseason preparations, but they've already been hit with a very significant setback.
While the Stanley Cup Final continues, the team is contending with yet another brutal injury in their forward ranks.
Bad news for the Avalanche as forward is expected to miss significant time.
Jacob Punturi from Breakaway On Si writes that the Avalanche revealed that forward Logan O'Connor recently underwent hip surgery. While the procedure was successful, his recovery is expected to take five to six months, meaning he'll miss a significant portion of the upcoming season.
"Following that timeline, O'Connor is poised to miss the start of the 2025-2026 regular season, and possibly even further. If he takes the full six months to recover, that puts him on track to make his season debut sometime in December." -Punturi
Losing O'Connor is a significant blow to Colorado's middle-six. He's been a reliable two-way presence for the past four seasons, tallying at least eight goals and 21 points each year.
"The 2023-2024 campaign was a breakout offensive year for O'Connor. Despite being limited to 57 regular season contests, he scored a career-high 13 goals. His best point total came the previous season, when he notched 26 points in 82 contests." -Punturi
While O'Connor doesn't match the severity of Gabriel Landeskog's setback, he's been a key piece in Colorado's bottom-six forward group and a dependable penalty killer. His absence will test the Avalanche's depth right out of the gate next season.
