Martin Necas drops huge statement about his future in Colorado

Colorado Avalanche superstar forward Martin Necas has dropped a major bombshell about his future with the team, openly addressing where he stands on a potential contract extension and what it could mean for his long-term future in Denver.
With just one year remaining on his current contract, the Avalanche face mounting pressure to strike a deal with Necas before history repeats itself, the same contract stalemate that ultimately cost them Mikko Rantanen.

Trent Finnegan from Denver Sports writes that Necas is set to earn $6.5 million with the burgundy and blue this season, but his next deal is expected to soar into eight figures annually. That leaves GM Chris MacFarland with little choice but to lock down the 26-year-old on a long-term extension, because the last thing Colorado can afford is to see another star walk for nothing.
At Avalanche Media Day on Wednesday, Necas addressed where contract talks currently stand as the season approaches.
"We're talking, we'll see what's going to happen. Can't really tell you. I don't really know. So, it will be interesting." -Necas
The Avalanche now face a Rantanen-like dilemma with Necas, who averaged over a point per game last season and would draw massive offers on the open market if GM Chris MacFarland can't lock him up.
On Wednesday, Necas admitted that after the "shocking" trade eight months ago, he has finally found his footing in Colorado and is eager to put together a full season with the Avalanche.
"Being traded during the year wasn't easy, but, I felt like it was a good opportunity here and now, being here, starting with the camp and getting to know the guys way more is great, and I'm excited for the season." -Necas
With just one goal in seven playoff games, committing $10 million annually to Necas would be a steep price if he repeats that level of production when it matters most.
"With a contract extension for superstar defenseman Cale Makar looming, the Avs front office has to be smart with the Necas situation. If they overpay him, they could mess things up in the future. The bottom line is, they can't let him walk. A trade or a new contract are the only two options for the regime if they don't want to mess up the Rantanen trade even more." -Finnegan
Beyond the injury concerns, all eyes at Avalanche training camp this week will be on Necas and his looming contract situation, easily the biggest to watch.
