A recent report has revealed a surprising update regarding Isak Posch, the Colorado Avalanche's promising goalie prospect in their organization.

Posch, undrafted, signed as a free agent with the Avalanche on March 26, 2025.

New report delivers surprising update on Isak Posch.

Jackie Kay from Mile Hockey Hockey writes that one of the Avalanche's more under-the-radar prospect additions came earlier this year, when the 23-year-old goaltender Posch signed a two-year entry-level contract with the team in March of last season.
Following a strong two-year stint at St. Cloud State, Posch was ready to make the jump to the professional ranks, just as the Avalanche were looking to strengthen their goaltending depth for the upcoming season.
"Posch began his honing his craft in Sweden, where he was born, playing in the Leksands system. However, in 2021 at 19-years-old he crossed the pond to play in the USHL for Sioux Falls, which is where the Avalanche likely first noticed him. After a year there Posch played a season in the NAHL before beginning his NCAA career with the Huskies." -Kay

During the 2024-25 season, Posch posted an impressive 2.40 GAA and a .923 save percentage, finishing with a 12-10-0 record as St. Cloud State's starting goaltender, a performance that led to an NHL contract offer from the Avalanche.
"To end the season Posch joined the Colorado Eagles, mostly to practice and get used to life as a pro but he did get in one game before the end of the AHL regular season. That start didn't go so well as Posch gave up six goals on 38 shots in a wild 7-4 loss to Tucson. He likely wasn't ready for the AHL game just yet, which is why the most logical place for Posch is to start with the Utah Grizzlies in the ECHL for the 2025-26 season." Kay

Posch's lower ranking in our series likely stems from a general lack of familiarity with him, but what boosted his position for some writers is the fact that he already holds an NHL contract.
In contrast, several players ranked ahead of his still face an uphill climb to ever suit up for the Avalanche organization, giving Posch an early advantage.
Standing at six-foot-three, he has the ideal frame for a long professional career, and if he can continue to develop his potential, he could become a regular presence in net for the Eagles, or perhaps even earn a larger role.
