Bednar spoke to the media during Wednesday's season-opening media availability.
Trent Finnegan from Denver Sports writes that Landeskog's injury saga has been a tumultuous journey for both him and the Avalanche. Since being cut by
Cale Makar's skate during the 2020 NHL Bubble, he hasn't been quite himself, affecting the team's performance.
The captain missed three full regular seasons after helping lead Colorado to the 2022 Stanley Cup, though he showed glimpses of his former form upon returning for the playoffs.
At Avalanche media day on Wednesday, head coach Jared Bednar confirmed Landeskog will be a "full go" to start the season.
«He's feeling great, so he'll be full go. And I think we just have to monitor that and make our decisions in the moment if he has any soreness or anything's going on with him, and he needs a day here and there off of practice or even games, we'll do that." -Bednar
In five playoff games last year, Landeskog appeared unaffected by his injury, tallying a +4 with a goal and three assists while energizing the team and the Ball Arena crowd. Now, he faces a full 82-game season and likely another playoff run, with Bednar emphasizing that his health comes first.
«We're looking at big picture stuff here for Landy, get him through the full entire season, have him feeling good, so he's available come the stretch run and hopefully playoffs. And for me, that's just going to be the communication between him and I and our medical staff. So right now, he's full go." -Bednar
Bednar also stressed that the 32-year-old won't have a minutes restriction at the season's start, though adjustments could be made if Landeskog begins to experience soreness.
«I'm not going to sit him out with games when he's feeling good, or [have him take] practices off when he's feeling good If at any point he comes to me, just like any other player, and he's fatigued or he's not feeling like he's ready to practice for whatever reason, we'll play it cautiously." -Bednar
Landeskog has looked strong in offseason skates, giving Avalanche fans hope. After years of health issues, this is a promising start, suggesting he has enough left to help lead the team back to another Stanley Cup.
