Head coach Jared Bednar comments on the recent firing of Nuggets head coach and GM
The Denver Nuggets fired Michael Malone, which caused fans to react furiously, and Avalanche Head Coach Jared Bednar reacted to the firing during a press conference.
Bednar, like Michael Malone, has won the ultimate prize for the team he's served as Head Coach for, the Colorado Avalanche. In 2023, Michael Malone would follow through with the Denver Nuggets winning their first NBA Championship, only a year removed from the Avs win.
Both coaches knew each other, and during a press conference, Bednar was asked about the firing, which led to him giving his limited, albeit emotional, statement on the topic.
He acknowledged that it was a business decision, which was a tough one for the Kroenke group to make, but they followed through with the onerous firing.
He's done a heck of a job here
Bednar complimented Malone's work with the Nuggets, which saw him spend a decade with the team, coaching them for 798 games in the NBA and delivering a championship in 2023.
He had a 471-327 record with the
Nuggets, and a winning percentage of .590, so this decision, like Bednar said, wasn't taken lightly.
Whereas Bednar is still coaching the Avalanche after nine seasons, and has taken the Avalanche to the playoffs consistently since 2017, and won the Championship in 2022.
Bednar has coached 697 games in the NHL, all with the Avs, and has a record of 389-244-64, with a .605 winning percentage.
Thankfully, he has the backing of Joe Sakic and will remain Head Coach of the Avalanche, unlike the circus with the Nuggets.
