Former Avalanche star sparks debate by calling out the Montreal Canadiens in recent interview

Former Colorado Avalanche star forward Jonathan Drouin recently opened up about his time with the Montreal Canadiens in a recent interview.
Drouin is set to join the New York Islanders for the upcoming season after signing a two-year contract in free agency.

Tom Banks from House Of Hockey writes that it will be Drouin's fourth NHL team since debuting in 2014-15 after stints with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Montreal Canadiens, and Colorado Avalanche.
"It was the lone Canadian team that Drouin played with for the longest time, playing in six seasons for Montreal, and over that time he found some solid success, but left without any significant Stanley Cup Playoffs success." -Banks
Under that intense pressure, things seemed to become very challenging for the Quebec native. In his recent interview, he revealed that leaving Montreal for Colorado reignited his passion for the game.
"Things didn't go well for me in Montreal. In Colorado, I was able to find myself and rediscover my passion for hockey. Nate (Mackinnon) and the whole organization helped me a lot. My teammates allowed me to change my outlook on the game." -Drouin
It's clear that Drouin was dissatisfied with his performance in Montreal, and with ongoing pressure from fans plus the absence of elite talent around him, moving Colorado appears to have been the best move for the 30-year-old's career.
The details of what exactly happened during Drouin's six years in Montreal remain unclear, but his recent comments are unlikely to sit well with the city's passionate fanbase.
Given the team's current direction and the veteran forward's clear desire to move on, it's probably safe to say that parting ways was the best outcome for both sides.
