Former Colorado Avalanche legend and Vancouver Canucks new head coach Adam Foote recently opened up about a meeting he had with the team's leadership group over the past couple of months.

Foote is replacing former Canucks' bench boss Rick Tocchet who was recently hired as the new head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers after resigning with the Canucks at the end of this past season.

Foote's latest comments raises concern in Vancouver.

Edward Jaxon from Canucks Daily writes that the Canucks are coming off a challenging 2024-25 season, having missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the fourth time in five years, fuelling speculation that significant changes could be on the way.
"With the majority of Vancouver's changes now completed, including a surprising long-term deal for Brock Boeser on Tuesday, the Canucks have plenty of work to do on the ice in September to prepare for the 2025-26 season, one that everyone hopes will feature a return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs." -Jaxon

In a recent interview with Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre, Canucks head coach Adam Foote spoke about a leadership meeting he held shortly after his promotion. The gathering included Elias Pettersson, who flew in from Sweden to Detroit, as well as Quinn Hughes and Thatcher Demko.
Foote said they covered several key topics he wants emphasized during the 2025-26 season, including a stronger focus on accountability among teammates.
"It's not magic dust; it is a process. That group, the leadership group ... they're going to take care of themselves. It's their room, right? They've got to hold each other accountable. They've got to push each other. They've got to take care of each other and make sure that they support each other. Like, there shouldn't be a young guy that sits in his room alone after he's called up. They've got to take care of that guy. If a guy's not pushing the pace in practice, well, you push each other." -Foote

Although this will be Foote's first stint as an NHL head coach, he bings a wealth of experience and insight to the role. He's also already well-acquainted with his current roster, having spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the Canucks.
"No matter how good you are or how much you're paid, everyone needs to earn their role on the roster and for guys like Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes, Thatcher Demko and others who have been around for a long time, they need to step up in a big way this coming season to ensure they don't miss out on another opportunity to make the postseason." -Jaxon

Foote will be hoping that the buy-in comes early and universally at training camp, whether it's from a top star like Pettersson, making $11.6 million, or a depth player like Nils Aman, who's on a $825,000 contract.
