Former Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie is reportedly weighing a surprising comeback to professional hockey, just weeks after announcing his retirement earlier this month.

The former Avalanche draft pick announced his retirement over the summer, but he isn't planning on leaving hockey behind completely.

Tyson Barrie already eyeing a return to hockey.

Preston Hodgkinson from Daily Hive Sports writes that a veteran of over 800 NHL games, Barrie earned a reputation as one of the league's most respected and beloved teammates. Whether with the Oilers, Avalanche, or Maple Leafs, he consistently endeared himself to those around him.
Now, Barrie appears ready to bring his well-liked personality to the media side of hockey. The 34-year-old revealed on the latest episode of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, alongside fellow ex-NHLers Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney, that he plans to give hockey media a try.
«I am going to dip my toe into media, maybe and see how it goes. See if I am well-received and I like itI don't know exactly where that'll be.

«Biz has been helping me a little bit, walking me through his vast media knowledge.» -Barrie
Drafted 64th overall by the Avalanche in 2009, the Victoria, B.C., native spent eight seasons in Colorado, emerging as a top offensive defenseman with three 50-point seasons and one 49-point campaign.
Barrie retired this past summer after struggling to stick with the Calgary Flames last season. Though he turned a PTO into a one-year deal, he appeared in just 13 games with Calgary.
"If a career in hockey media doesn't pan out, Barrie could always shift focus to the beer company. The ex-NHLer founded «Chilly Ones» in 2024 and has collaborated with various teammates on the brand, including former Oilers goalie Mike Smith and Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon." -Hodgkinson

It's unclear whether Barries will land a media role in time for the upcoming season, but if he does, there will be plenty of fans cheering him on from the TV screen.
