Former Colorado Avalanche first-round pick Casey Mittelstaft has been dealt a tough setback with the Boston Bruins, putting a damper on his preparations just days before the team's 2025-26 season opener.
The news comes as a blow to both Mittelstadt and the Bruins, who were counting on him to play a key role this year.

Austin Sabourin from Bruins Insider writes that yesterday, both Viktor Arvidsson and Mittelstadt took to the ice before practice, raising some questions about possible injuries.
After practice, head coach Marco Sturm clarified that Arvidsson was battling an illness, while Mittelstadt was nursing a lower-body injury, though he emphasized it wasn't anything too serious.
Per Marco Sturm, Viktor Arvidsson missed skate because he was sick yesterday but is feeling better. Casey Mittelstadt is dealing with a lower-body injury. Sturm said it's "nothing crazy" and Mittelstadt will be back tomorrow.
Sturm indicated that both players would return to practice today, but after the Bruins' latest skate, Mittelstadt was notably absent.
Arvidsson is back with the non-game group. Don't see Mittelstadt (lower body).
Mittelstadt has been the subject of numerous trade rumours throughout the offseason, with many believing he could be moved closer to this year's NHL trade deadline.
