A new development has emerged that reveals surprising details about the long-term future of superstar defenseman Cale Makar, raising questions about what lies ahead for both him and the Colorado Avalanche.

With big-name players starting to receive big paydays, where does the top defenseman in the NHL sit with his future dollar amount?

New report reveals stunning information about Cale Makar's future.

Tyler Kuehl from Daily Faceoff writes that after the Minnesota Wild locked up Kirill Kaprizov with a groundbreaking eight-year deal carrying an NHL-record $17 million AAV, the ripple effects are being felt across the league.
Attention now turns to what this might mean for upcoming megadeals, particularly with Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid entering the final season of his own eight-year contract.
Beyond McDavid, however, there are several other stars poised to cash in with cap hits that would have seemed unimaginable not long ago.
"One of those talented assets is Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar. Arguably the best blueliner in the game, Makar has earned the right to receive a significant raise in the near future. The 26-year-old has two more years left on his current six-year contract, which has a cap hit of $9 million, and is eligible to sign an extension this coming July." -Kuehl

On Wednesday's edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton broke down just how massive Cale Makar's next contract could be, sparking plenty of debate about what the superstar defenseman might command on the open market.
"I think Makar is going to be Kaprizov-plus. I think Makar might be $17-18 million." -Yaremchuk

And here's what Hutton had to say in response to his cohost...
"Yeah, he's got to be right? The way this market is going and the way that the money is spent. He's just the guy where I think, with Nathan MacKinnon, they obviously talk about taking a little bit less. Maybe he's just making sure that him and MacKinnon, having to negotiate a deal where Nate can just take a touch more, because without those two, this team does not go. So, Makar has got to be licking his chops at home, knowing the way this market is rolling, knowing that he is the best defenseman on the planet and what he's going to get paid.

I think you start to creep up into those numbers nowThis is the new norm, right? I think there is an adjustment period. There is a wow factor, but this is the way the cap is going. This is the way that the structure is going, and these high-end guys are going to be able to call their shots and get what they need." -Hutton

We'll have to wait and see how Kaprizov's massive contract shapes the market moving forward, but one thing is certain, it has set a new benchmark that could influence the next wave of superstar deals across the NHL.
