The Philadelphia Flyers have previously attempted to acquire standout defenseman Bowen Byram from the Buffalo Sabres.

But now, according to recent NHL trade rumors , they're expected to make another push for the former Colorado Avalanche first-round pick.

Flyers reportedly eyeing former Avalanche first-round star.

Jonathan Bailey from The Hockey News writes that Byram, 23, is a pending restricted free agent on a Buffalo roster reportedly dealing with growing frustration among several players over the team's ongoing struggles.
That discontent isn't shocking, especially considering Byram has already experienced the thrill of winning a Stanley Cup with Colorado in 2022.
"Byram has recently changed agents and purportedly wants more power play time, which he won't get as long as Rasmus Dahlin is on the Sabres. The Flyers, on the other hand, do not have a dedicated power play quarterback for either of the two units that were no better than 30th in each of the last three years." -Bailey

Much like the Sabres and Byram, the Flyers are also facing challenges with a restricted free agent defenseman of their own, Cam York, who remains unsigned. In contrast, fellow RFA's Noah Cates and Tyson Foerster recently secured new contracts without much difficulty.
"If role and playing time is an issue for Byram but not for York, it's reasonable to assume that the Flyers and the Sabres are in positions to help each other out without sacrificing much else at either end." -Bailey

The Flyers have no shortage of talent to pursue on the NHL trade market this offseason, but it's up to the front office to take action. Building a Stanley Cup contender won't happen on its own.
