Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby seemed to take a subtle jab at Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon during a recent interview, sparking plenty of discussion among fans and analysts alike.

The two Nova Scotia natives train together every summer in what's widely regarded as one of the most elite and competitive offseason skating groups in the game.

Sidney Crosby throws shade at Nathan MacKinnon in recent interview.

Jackson Weber from The Sporting News writes that although they're at different stages of their careers, Crosby and MacKinnon share remarkably similar styles in their primes, built on speed, strength, and pure skill to dominate opponents.
With that in mind, you might expect MacKinnon's favorite player to watch to be his idol and close friend, Crosby. However, it turns out Tampa Bay Lightning superstar Nikita Kucherov actually tops that list.
Here's what MacKinnon had to say when Crosby asked him directly during a TSN media sit-down.
"Yeah, I like Kuch. Well, I like Kuch because he's like the opposite of what I do. You know? I'm like, choppy, and, I don't know, out of control. He's just so smooth, you know? There's not a whole lot of smoothness to my game, so I like watching him." -MacKinnon
It's not just Nathan MacKinnon who enjoys watching Nikita Kucherov's nightly display of skill, much of the NHL remains in awe of his talent.
During a recent conversation with insider Jeff Marek, Robert Thomas also shared his thoughts when asked which players he enjoys watching the most.
"If you were to ask NHLers who they would pay to watch, most of them would say Kucherov." -Thomas
The five-time All-Star will aim to keep his momentum going in 2025-26, as he chases his fourth straight and sixth career 100-point season.
