Fans were left stunned after the Colorado Avalanche unveiled a surprising and unexpected change to their upcoming 2025-26 NHL preseason schedule, sparking widespread discussion and speculation.
The Avalanche are set to do something they haven't done since 2017.
Fans shocked after Avalanche's latest schedule announcement.
The University of Denver will host a National Hockey League preseason game on Sunday, Sept. 21, at Magness Arena, featuring the Colorado Avalanche facing off against the Utah Mammoth.
The game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. MT, with tickets starting at under $34. Presale tickets go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday, August 13, while general public sales begin this Friday, August 15, at 10 a.m. MT.
Each team's roster will be announced on game day. The NHL mandates that every club dress at least eight players who either played a minimum of 30 NHL games in the previous season or have at least 100 career NHL games for every preseason game.
This will be the first preseason of the season for both teams and kicks off a split-squad doubleheader, with the Avalanche and Mammoth facing off again later the same evening at Ball Arena.
The Avlanche organization last played at Magness Arena in 2017 during the Burgundy/White intrasquad game. The University of Denver also hosted that scrimmage in 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2014, 2015, and 2016.
This upcoming preseason showdown at Magness Arena not only marks a thrilling return for the Avalanche to a familiar venue but also sets the stage for an exciting season kickoff that fans won't want to miss.
