Colorado Avalanche division rival Winnipeg Jets forward scores in honour of his late father

Mere hours after the sudden passing of his father, Scheifele took to the ice for a must-win Game 6 of their second-round playoff series against the Stars.

He made a significant impact as well, scoring the opening goal five minutes into the second period, prompting an emotional group hug from his teammates in celebration.

In a highly emotional and intense game, the Jets weren't able to hold off the Stars, as defenseman Thomas Harley scored a power-play goal just 1:33 into overtime, lifting Dallas to a 2-1 victory over the top-seeded Jets.

At the final buzzer, the Jets players once again gathered around Scheifele, offering hugs and support. Recognizing the emotional weight of the day, several Stars players also embraced and spoke with him during the postgame handshake line.

Connor McDavid and the Oilers, who defeated the Stars in six games last year, closed out their second-round series with a 1-0 overtime victory over Vegas in Game 5 on Wednesday night.

Game 1 between the Oilers and Stars is set for Wednesday night.
