Winnipeg Jets' Mark Scheifele receives tragic news ahead of his team's elimination game tonight against the Dallas Stars.

Jets' general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff told reporters Saturday morning that veteran center Mark Scheifele's father, Brad, had passed away during the night.

Winnipeg Jets captain Mark Scheifele receives terrible news on Friday.

As other Jets players took to the ice this morning ahead of a must-win Game 6 tonight against the Dallas Stars, head coach Scott Arniel returned to the team's hotel to be with Scheifele.
«As an organization, we're doing everything we can to support him. We wish, give, his family our most sincere condolences, and obviously ask that everybody respect his and their privacy at this time." -Cheveldayoff

Iain MacIntyre from Sportsnet writes that Scheifele, 32, is the longest-tenured player on the Jets, having been drafted by Winnipeg in 2011 and making his NHL debut in 2013.
Cheveldayoff's voice trembled with emotion as he broke the news earlier today.
«From our family, just deepest, deepest sympathies and condolences.» -Cheveldayoff
Jets' captain Adam Lowry had this to say regarding his friend and teammate's beloved father.
"Spending my whole career here, numerous father-son trips, just the energy he had was unmatched. Just his joy and excitement for life, and he really passed that down onto Mark. I think his positivity, his outlook on life, is that of a genuinely happy person. A terrible loss." -Lowry

Lowry said he found out about Brad's passing on the way to the rink Saturday morning. He added that Arniel addressed the team before leaving American Airlines Center to be with Mark.
According to MacIntyre, Arniel is expected to provide an update on Scheifele's playing status when he speaks to the media at 4:30pm CT. Puck drop is set for 7:00pm in Dallas.
If necessary, Game 7 between the Stars and Jets will go on Monday in Winnipeg.
