The Montreal Canadiens could be hitting the jackpot with a surprising 1-for-1 trade offer involving Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup hero Nazem Kadri, potentially shaking up the both team's rosters ahead of the upcoming NHL season.
Kadri's name has been involved in multiple
trade rumours throughout the entire offseason.
New trade proposal has Kadri landing in Montreal.
Caleb Kerney from Heavy.com writes that the Canadiens have several important tasks on their summer to-do list. Adding offensive firepower, whether a promising young winger or a solid second-line center, is a top priority. With recent injury news about
Kirby Dach, bolstering the center position should now take precedence.
Here's the proposed deal that would send Kadri to the Canadiens...
Canadiens Acquire:
Nazem Kadri ($7,000,000)
The proposed deal would be a one-for-one blockbuster. The Canadiens would land a proven top-six center and Stanley Cup champion in Kadri.
In return, the Flames would acquire a forward with one year remaining on his contract, who can provide immediate offensive boost this season and offer the flexibility to sign Laine long-term if the fit proves right.
"A Kadri-Laine swap would lighten the Canadiens' salary by $1.7 million. That wouldn't completely resolve their cap conundrum, but it would give them more flexibility and make them a better team in the process." -Kerney
Kadri is a 15-year NHL veteran who brings a wealth of experience to the Canadiens. According to Nick Kypreos, he would be willing to waive his no-move clause to join one of the two Eastern Conference Canadian teams.
«Kadri could still possibly be a contributing piece when some of the youth blossoms. A trade now could also bring Calgary a package that would help them more in the long-term. And that return would improve if the Flames also retain salary.
Two teams that Kadri continues to be linked to and appear to be willing to lift his no-move clause for are the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs.» -Kypreos
Kadri still has four years remaining on his current contract.
