Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving's latest comments have once again sparked trade speculation, this time involving Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup hero Nazem Kadri, fuelling rumours of a potential reunion.
Leafs GM's recent comments spark more trade speculation involving Nazem Kadri.
Charlie McAfee from Hockey Patrol writes that there's no clear indication yet whether Kadri will be traded, but if the Calgary Flames struggle this season, it can become a real possibility.
A return to Toronto could be on the table, where he might help his former team make a serious run, though it would likely come at a hefty price.
However, Treliving doesn't appear too worried about the potential cost. His recent comments praising Kadri's mindset and playing style suggest the Maple Leafs could have serious interest, and that Kadri would be a natural fit back in the lineup.
"The one thing that sticks out about Kadri is he likes the stage. There's some people that embrace it, maybe some people shy away from it. This guy, he loves the stage. He's an ultimate competitor.
The bright lights and big stage, he relishes that. Some cower, others embrace it. He fully embraces it. He's a winner, he's got that attitude and he's got that aura around him that he's here to play for keeps." -Treliving
We know how much Treliving values passion, and if the Maple Leafs manage to bring Kadri back into the fold, it could spell trouble for opposing teams. Kadri isn't jsut a skilled offensive threat, he played with an edge and won't tolerate any nonsense, making him a dangerous two-way presense.
"There has been speculation that Calgary is not going to play ball with Treliving due to some rocky history, however if the former Flames executive feels he can get a deal done for Kadri, he's going to target him; he signed him there in the first place after all." -McAfee
Kadri, 34, put up an impressive 67 points in 82 games last season with Calgary, tallying 35 goals and 32 assists, though the Flames ultimately fell just short of a playoff berth.
