A recent report indicates that the Colorado Avalanche's divisional rival, the Winnipeg Jets, are on the verge of pulling off a major blockbuster trade to bring back star defenseman Jacob Trouba.
Trouba was originally selected ninth overall the Jets in the 2012 NHL Draft.
Avalanche rival eyeing blockbuster trade to acquire Jacob Trouba.
Daniel Lucente from House of Hockey writes that Trouba has built a reputation for his physical style of play and consistently producing 30 to 40 points per season. However, in recent years, he's come under increasing criticism after finishing with a minus rating in each of the past three seasons.
Some of Trouba's struggles may stem from underlying tensions with Rangers management during his time in New York, which eventually led to his trade to Anaheim last season.
Trouba could be drawn to the idea of playing for a contender like Winnipeg, and according to NHL analyst Jake Tye of the Hockey News, if the Ducks fail to show signs of competitiveness, a return to the jets might become an attractive option for the 31-year-old defenseman.
"The Jets may be in the market for a playoff-tested defenseman to strengthen their depth. If Trouba is willing to sign at a reduced cap hit in the range of $5 to $6 million, Winnipeg could see value in bringing him back to the team." -Lucente
Returning to Winnipeg could give Trouba a much-needed morale boost and place him back in a familiar setting, potentially helping him rediscover the form that once made him one of the NHL's most feared and promising defenseman.
