Will Mackenzie Blackwood be ready for the season opener?
Aarif Deen from Colorado Hockey Now writes that the Avalanche hit the ice on Tuesday with players already divided between the NHL and AHL groups.
The NHL squad took the early session, with line combinations already starting to take shape ahead of opening night.
Bednar also offered an update on the Avalanche's starting goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood, who was spotted taking shots.
"It's going well, for sure. He's doing more and more every day." -Bednar
Before the second session began, Blackwood was on the ice alone, working with a few coaches. He took light shots from a butterfly stance, keeping things low-intensity.
"Still, it marks the next stage in his rehab, and it seems he progressed well enough to reach this milestone." -Deen
Bednar also revealed that defenseman
Samuel Girard should be ready to go for opening night, while Blackwood's status is still questionable.
"I don't know about Blackwood." -Bednar
The Avalanche begin preseason play on Sept. 21 against the Utah Mammoth, then trim their roster ahead of their Oct. 7 season opener versus the Los Angeles Kings.
