The Mammoth will be without Kerfoot to start the preseason, as a lower-body injury has sidelined him on a week-to-week basis, the team announced Friday.
Alex Kerfoot set to miss some time with the Mammoth.
Ben Steiner from the Daily Faceoff writes that Kerfoot, has been one of the NHL's most durable players over the past four seasons, missing only a single game. However, his latest injury now puts his status for Utah's regular-season opener against the Avalanche on Oct. 9 in doubt.
"Last season, Kerfoot netted 11 goals and 37 points, while also posting 67 blocked shots with an average of 15:15 ice time per game. In his career, he has scored 98 goals and 292 points in 605 regular season games, having made his NHL debut in 2016 with the Avalanche." -Steiner
The Vancouver native also played four seasons with Toronto and spent the Coyotes' final year in Arizona before the move to Utah.
A Harvard standout, Kerfoot helped the Mammoth to a 38-31-13 record last season, though they missed the playoffs by seven points, finishing sixth in the Central Division.
"When he returns this season, he will likely play a bottom six role as the Mammoth look to further their success and reach the postseason in their second season at the Delta Center and in Salt Lake City." -Steiner
The Mammoth open preseason play with split-squad against the Avalanche on Sept. 21 in both Colorado and Utah, before meeting again in the regular-season opener on Oct. 9.
Kerfoot's one-year contract with the Mammoth runs through the end of the 2025-26 season, with a cap-hit of $3 million.
