The Colorado Avalanche recently signed Parker Kelly to a four-year extension, and with his future secured, the forward is ready to elevate his game and cement his place in the NHL.
Parker Kelly excited for future with Avalanche following extension.
Colleen Flynn of Colorado Hockey Now covered the recent signing of Parker Kelly, and how relieved the forward is.
"It's nice to get some term, and it probably would have been a contract year after this year. So yeah, to not have that looming over your head is hopefully going to free me up and allow me to play my game. It's definitely a little bit of relief and a lot of excitement too." -Kelly
Parker Kelly adds significant versatility to the Avalanche lineup, giving head coach Jared Bednar more flexibility to experiment and be creative.
"I can play either or, no problem. On the wing allows me to use my suite a little bit more. And I'm probably a little bit more offensive-minded on the wing,» «Playing center, you're kind of behind the play a little bit and, being F3 instead of getting it on the forecheck F1 so I'm definitely probably a little more comfortable being that first in and getting some body on the guy. But I'm definitely comfortable playing whatever Bedsy (head coach Jared Bednar) needs for me." -Kelly
The past two seasons Kelly has tallied 18 and 19 points respectively. However, we wouldn't be surprised if that number jumps to 30+, as the forward could be coming into his own with a few years under his belt.
Kelly's standout trait is his physical play, consistently averaging over 100 hits per season. He's the perfect role player for the Colorado Avalanche, which is why they chose to extend his contract.
