A recent report just revealed a massive announcement concerning Colorado Avalanche top goalie prospect Trent Miner after an impressive season with the AHL Colorado Eagles.
Avalanche top prospect hit with unexpected update.
Savvy Rafkin from Hockey Mountain High writes that the Avalanche were dealing with goaltending issues. With a shaky start to the season and
Alexander Georgiev struggling between the pipes, it was clear that something needed to shift.
Amid the uncertainty at the NHL level, one standout goaltender was quetly making a case for a call-up.
Throughout the 2024-25 season, he was called up multiple times and served as a backup for the Avalanche. In his lone start, he took a loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, finishing with a .850 save percentage.
However, that stat doesn't reflect his true potential in goal. Fans of the Avalanche's AHL affiliate, the Eagles, are well aware of the level of skill and impact he brings every time he steps on the ice.
"He was their primary goaltender throughout both the regular season and the shortened playoff run. The Eagles leaned on him heavily, and despite some major defensive breakdowns in front of the net, Miner did everything he could to keep his team in the game and stay competitive through tough stretches." -Rafkin
He appeared in 38 of the Eagles' 72 regular season games, maintaining an impressive .918 save percentage heading into the playoffs. Along the way, he also recorded multiple shutouts, solidifying his status as a key presence in the crease.
Although he didn't set new career highs in most statistical categories aside from games played, what he did demonstrate was reliability. And that kind of consistency was exactly what the Avalanche organization was missing during the early part of the season.
"With the arrival of Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood, Miner might not get much NHL ice time for now. But that also means more time for him to develop. The potential is there, and with more experience, he could become a reliable option for the Avalanche in the seasons to come." -Rafkin
Miner inked a new two-year contract on June 30, ensuring he'll remain a key presence in the crease for the Avalanche organization through at least the 2026-27 season.
