The Vegas Golden Knights emerge as a leading contender to sign an all-star free agent this offseason.

The Golden Knights have been named among the top contenders in the latest odds to sign unrestricted free agent forward and former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, who is aiming to make an NHL comeback.

Avalanche locked in battle with divisional rival over free agent this summer.

Jack Sutherland from House of Hockey writes that the former Blackhawks captain has been sidelined since April of 2023, dealing with lingering effects of Long Covid and a 2021 diagnosis of Chronic Immune Response Syndrome (CIRS), which previously kept him out for the entire 2020-21 season.
"He's been linked to his hometown Winnipeg Jets along with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning, but another team has now been included in the odds to land Toews. Via FanDuel odds, the Vegas Golden Knights are included with +650 odds to Toews' next team." -Sutherland

Toews recently shared that he was disappointed with how his time with the Blackhawks, where he served as captain during three Stanley Cup championships, came to an end in 2023. He also admitted he's unsure about retiring, but made it clear that he still deeply misses the game.
"Everyone just assumed I was retired, but I think in my mind, I wasn't too sure for a long time. I just needed to not think about it, to just give myself time and space. Now I'm really missing hockey, and I think that's the biggest sign. I really miss the game and feel I have a whole different perspective and a new lease on things." -Toews

To date, Toews has recorded 883 points, including 372 goals and 511 assists, over the course of 1,067 NHL games in his career.
