Jets fans can breathe easy after an official injury update confirmed that former Chicago Blackhawks captain will be in the lineup for Winnipeg's season opener.
Jonathan Toews reveals health status ahead of Winnipeg's season opener.
Julien Trekker from Hawks Insider writes that for seasoned NHL veterans, preseason games often carry unnecessary injury risk before the regular season begins.
But for someone like Jonathan Toews, who hadn't played an NHL game in two years, exhibition matches are incredibly valuable.
Unfortunately, the former Chicago Blackhawks captain suffered an injury, restricting him to just two preseason appearances
Toews, who signed a one-year deal with the Jets during the offseason, had to exit last Tuesday's game due to an injury.
"Concerns about his return emerged after the injury, but a new report live from the Jets' practice shed away the doubts and worries about his health. Indeed, Toews was a full participant in today's practice." -Trekker
Mike McIntyre shared a photo on X, noting that
Dylan DeMelo, who left the last game after taking a stick to the throat, was present, while
Cole Perfetti remained absent as he deals with a lower-body injury.
This is huge news for the Jets, who are counting on Toews to regain his former speed and help the team make a strong push this season.
Without him, depth at center would be impacted. While official confirmation is still pending, there's no indication he won't be ready for Winnipeg's season opener Thursday against the Dallas Stars.
