The Colorado Avalanche could be watching closely as divisional rival Winnipeg Jets' high-profile acquisition, Jonathan Toews, is already facing lingering health concerns following his latest on-ice session, raising questions about his ability to make an impact this season.

The former Chicago Blackhawks has officially joined the Jets and was recently spotted on the ice for the first time sporting his new colours after signing a one-year deal earlier this offseason.

Jonathan Toews faces health questions after latest skate.

Jack Sutherland from Hawks Insider writes that the Toews era in Chicago officially came to a close in 2023 when the Blackhawks informed their longtime captain he would not be re-signed.
His final appearance at the United Center that April ended with a standing ovation, a fitting tribute in what many believed would be his last NHL game.
Since then, Toews has been sidelined by complications from long COVID and a chronic immune response syndrome diagnosis. But after months of speculation and his own declaration of a comeback attempt, Toews has returned to the league, signing a one-year contract with his hometown Winnipeg Jets.
"He was recently seen in full Jets gear on the ice, and his health looks amazing. Despite being away for years and having many reported health battles, he looks very comfortable." -Sutherland
After officially inking his deal with Winnipeg in July, Toews admitted he never imagined himself pulling on another NHL sweater, yet doing so with his hometown Jets felt like the perfect fit for his comeback.
"It really got to a point where I couldn't see myself wearing any other jersey. It wasn't something where you write down the pros and cons on a piece of paper. To me, it wasn't rational at all: It was more of an intuitive thing where it just felt right." -Toews

Toews and Patrick Kane are the last active players from Chicago's three Stanley Cups, but while Toews joined Winnipeg, Kane shocked fans by re-signing with rival Detroit instead of reuniting in Chicago alongside Connor Bedard.
