The Colorado Avalanche's divisional foe, the St. Louis Blues, have been dealt a major blow as Stanley Cup champion Milan Lucic faces a significant setback just before the regular season begins.
Avalanche rival suffers massive setback ahead of upcoming season.
Julien Trekker from Red Wings Insider writes that after missing the entire 2024-25 season due to off-ice issues, many assumed the 37-year-old was finished with professional hockey. Instead, he reported to Blues training camp determined to earn a spot on the roster.
However, he is already facing significant adversity.
Blues head coach Jim Montgomery confirmed in a press conference that the veteran forward has suffered an injury and will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.
"He's day-to-day. He's walking around fine. It's just a matter of being able to push out there. It's unfortunate timing for him and us for the evaluation process to see if he can make the club.
If he's really day-to-day, and he's back to play next week, he'll get into games and we'll see if he can make the team." -Trekker
The Boston Bruins' 2006 second-round pick managed to record an assist in the Blues' preseason opener against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
"Over his career, he took part in 1,177 regular-season games with Boston, the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, and Calgary Flames. He scored 586 points, including 233 goals, and 1,301 penalty minutes over his 17-season NHL career.
He also added 29 goals and 48 assists in 136 playoff games, notably winning a Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011." -Trekker
Health update will continue to emerge, but as this time, there's no indication that Lucic would miss the Blues' season opener on October 9 against the Minnesota Wild, should he make the roster.
