Avalanche divisional rival kick-off the offseason with a shocking blockbuster trade

The Seattle Kraken have acquired the forward from the Dallas Stars in a trade that sends a 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2026 third-round pick to Dallas, the team announced Thursday evening.

Sportsnet reports that Marchment, 30, played the last three seasons with the Stars after inking a four-year, $18 million deal in July 2022. During his 211-game stint with the Stars, he tallied 56 goals and 131 points.

Before his time with the Stars, Marchment played two seasons with the Florida Panthers and appeared in four games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team that originally signed him as an un-drafted free agent to an AHL deal.

According to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, the Stars will not retain any salary on Marchment's contract, which carries a $4.5 million cap hit and has one year remaining.

The trade comes hours after the Stars inked veteran forward Matt Duchene to a four-year contract extension, valued at $18 million in total. The contract will carry an AAV of $4.5 million.

At 34 years old, Duchene completed the regular season with 82 points (30 goals and 52 assists) over 82 games for the Stars, topping the team's scoring charts and achieving a career-best 52 assists.

After an embarrassing playoff exit to the Edmonton Oilers in Round 3, Duchene is banking on Dallas to give him his best shot at winning a Stanley Cup as he nears the end of his impressive playing career.
