Former Avalanche first-round draft pick signs a shocking new NHL deal

Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill revealed today that the team has secured forward Matt Duchene with a four-year contract extension.
The deal stars with the 2025-26 season and extends through the 2028-29 season. Valued at $18 million in total, the contract carries an average annual value of $4.5 million.

At 34 years old, Duchene completed the regular season with 82 points (30 goals and 52 assists) over 82 games for the Stars, topping the team's scoring charts and achieving a career-best 52 assists.

Duchene had already expressed his desire to re-sign with the Stars awhile back.
"I'd love to stay here and make it work. I'm in a little different place maybe this year than I was last year looking at things. I believe in this group and I want to be here. I know how close we are." -Duchene
Duchene received his wish on Thursday morning.
After an embarrassing playoff exit to the Edmonton Oilers in Round 3, Duchene is banking on Dallas to give him his best shot at winning a Stanley Cup as he nears the end of his impressive playing career.
