The Stars may not have pulled off a blockbuster trade or huge extension, but their latest roster addition could quietly shake up the Central Division.
Stars pull off big move that could shake up the Central Division.
Vince Hull from Blade of Steel writes that Dallas signed rugged forward
Nathan Bastian to a one-year, one-way deal worth $775,000. While it may seem like a depth move, Bastian could give the Stars a new physical edge in matchups where they're previously struggled.
General manager Jim Nill highlighted in his announcement that...
"Nathan will add forward depth and a physical presence to our lineup, both of which will be valuable to our organization." -Nill
Bastian could be the Stars' under-the-radar X-factor in 2025-26. At 27, he may not fill the scoresheet, but his game offers value beyond goals and assists.
Last season with the New Jersey Devils, Bastian tallied 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) while delivering 138 hits over 59 games.
"That kind of energy and physical grind is exactly what the Stars can use in their bottom six, especially against division rivals like Colorado and Minnesota." -Hull
Bastian's versatility makes him a valuable fit for Dallas, capable of playing either wing and handling penalty-kill duties. For a team that has sometimes struggled in the heavy playoff battles, he could be a quiet piece that goes unnoticed now but proves crucial come April.
Moves like this are exactly how Nill has kept the Stars competitive, adding smart depth that can tip the scales when the top stars aren't enough.
