The Colorado Avalanche are on high alert following a significant blockbuster move by their divisional rivals, the Dallas Stars, who recently signed forward Nathan Bastian to a one-year deal, signalling their intent to strengthen their roster.
Bastien signed a one-way contract worth $775,000 for the 2025-26 NHL season.
Avalanche rivals shake up the Central after signing power-forward Nathan Bastian.
Vince Hull from Blades of Steel writes that Stars' general manager Jim Nill announced the signing on Saturday, highlighting Bastian as a player who brings both depth and toughness to an already competitive roster.
The 27-year-old forward joins the Stars after several seasons with the new Jersey Devils, where he earned a reputation for his size, physicality, and ability to contribute offensively from the bottom-six forward group.
"Nathan will add forward depth and a physical presence to our lineup, both of which will be valuable to our organization, Nill told NHL.com." -Hull
Bastian's NHL journey started when the Devils picked him 41st overall in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft.
He made his NHL debut with New Jersey being claimed by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft.
His stint in Seattle was short-lived, as the Devils reclaimed him off waivers later that season.
"Over 276 regular-season games, 254 of them with the Devils, Bastian has tallied 33 goals and 35 assists for 68 points.
He's also appeared in 17 playoff games, posting one goal and one assist, including five postseason appearances last year as New Jersey fell to the Carolina Hurricanes." -Hull
Last season, injuries and healthy scratches limited Bastian to 59 games, during which he recorded 4 goals and 6 assists.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing over 200 pounds, he uses his size and effectively, making him a valuable addition to a Stars team aiming to add more physicality to its forward group.
