Avalanche's big mistake? Latest report warns trading away this promising young forward will likely backfire

The Colorado Avalanche may soon regret trading away star forward Casey Mittelstadt to the Boston Bruins at the trade deadline last season.
In exchange, the Avalanche received veteran forward Charlie Coyle who recently got traded again to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Avalanche will regret trading Mittelstadt.
Michael DeRosa from Yahoo Sports writes that at the 2025 NHL trade deadline, the Bruins parted ways with several key players from their core, acquiring new latent in return.
"After being acquired by the Bruins from the Colorado Avalanche in the Charlie Coyle trade, Mittelstadt struggled to find his fit with the Original Six club. In 18 games with the Bruins following the move, Mittelstadt posted four goals, two assists, and a notable minus-17 rating. Overall, he had a tough start to his Bruins tenure." -DeRosa
However, considering Mittelstadt's past achievements, there's a strong chance he could rebound with the Bruins next season. In the 2023-24 season, he notched 18 goals and 57 points over 80 games split between the Buffalo Sabres and Avalanche.
The season before, in 2022-23, he scored 15 goals and set a career-high with 59 points in 82 games for the Sabres, showing he can be a reliable point producer when playing at his peak.
"With the Bruins needing more offense, it would be significant for them if Mittelstadt rebounds next season for them. The potential for him to be an impactful part of their top six is there, and it will be fascinating to see if the 26-year-old can have a strong season for the Bruins in 2025-26 from here." -DeRosa
The Bruins have been active this off-season, adding a wealth of new talent while also securing key players from last year's roster.
