AHL affiliate Colorado Eagles avoid the same fate as the Colorado Avalanche

Their best-of-five playoff series will go the distance, with the winner of Game 5 on Monday advancing to the AHL Conference Final in a best-of-seven contest.

The first period began with a prime scoring opportunity for Abbotsford, as Jujhar Khara was stopped on the breakaway by Eagles' goalie Trent Miner.

Miner stood tall all game which allowed the Eagles' to capitalize when Jean-Luc Foudy redirected a shot past Artur Silovs to give Colorado the early lead. It was the third consecutive game in which the Eagles struck first.

The Canucks then turned the puck over behind their net midway in the second period, which led to the Eagles' second goal of the contest. Forward Jayson Megna would capitalize from a Canucks' turnover in the slot to double Colorado's lead.

With Abbotsford's penalty-killing streak broken, it seemed like the floodgates had opened. Following Tye Felhaber's power-play goal in the final minute of the second period to put Colorado up 3-0, Abbotsford racked up five more penalties and three game misconducts before the game's final whistle.

Nate Smith would score the lone goal for the Canucks late in the third period.

Special teams proved to be a key factor in tonight's game. Colorado ended Abbotsford's impressive streak of 30 consecutive penalties killed, while the Canucks failed to convert on their two power-play opportunities.

Game 5 will go Monday from Blue Arena in Colorado.
